PEDMAS Practice
Good morning!

I just finished correcting the sheets of the students who handed them in on Thursday. First, remember to SHOW YOUR WORK! If you get the incorrect answer and don't show how you arrived there, then we can't diagnose the problem so you don't make the same mistake again! At this stage, underlining the step you are working on is also very helpful.

For the students who did show their work, I can see that you are following the correct order of operations (PEDMAS)- WONDERFUL!- but arithmetic errors are leading you down the wrong road. Use your flip booklets to review what to do when adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers.

I found some websites in Ms. Armstrong's binder that can give you extra practice:

  1. http://www.aaamath.com/pro73c-order-of-operations.html This site allows you to test yourself on the computer.
  2. http://www.amby.com/educate/ord-op/ This site has an explanation and a practice test.
  3. http://www.mathgoodies.com/lessons/vol7/order_operations.html This site has an explanation and a practice test.
  4. http://www.dositey.com/addsub/Mystery11.htm This site has you work through the puzzle to find a hidden picture.
  5. http://www.quia.com/cm/16544.html This site has you match the question to the answer.
That's all for now! Happy number crunching. :)
